Meet Ravens Family

Raven and her family has been a wonderful addition to the Ron Schara family.  They are enjoyed by all who watch her on television as well as by Ron, Denise, Simone and Laura Schara.  Raven I made her television debut over 15 years ago, and her legacy lives on.  You can learn more about each of them by reading below!

Robin - aka Lil' Raven

You might recognize Raven's famous puppies from the Crestliner commercial. Ron gave one puppy away to a lucky fan this September. Click here to read the story of the giveaway. Ron kept a puppy, too. Raven, or Little Raven as Ron calls her, has filled in once or twice on Minnesota Bound for her mother and is destined to be a star!

Easy

Full Name: Raven’s Nice and Easy
Weight: 73.5 lbs.

Easy belongs to the Skip Hall family. Skip owns Flour City Welding and he and his wife, Cathie, have 2 children (Britt and Tucker). Other extended family of Easy’s is Cur-B and Chelsea (2 cats). Easy’s favorite toys include sticks, balls, logs, dummies, and shoes. Easy’s special trick involves catching and rolling a softball back to you.
One of the favorite stories on Easy involves Cur-B, the cat. Cur-B will sit on the family’s dock and watch sunfish swim below for hours. Once Easy saw this, he also watched but does so with a great deal more enthusiasm. Every 3-4 minutes the Hall family hears a "splash" at the dock as Easy has joined the fish for a swim. Not able to get a fish, he soon is back on the dock and the cycle repeats itself...for hours on end.

Cur-B must wonder what Easy is doing... Does Easy have any "Raven" qualities? Skip say’s he "cocks his head" like Raven, and loves the water. Easy also has a "wave curl" down his back, and is an excellent retriever. "He’s a treat to have around", said Skip.

Easy seems to enjoy/tolerate flying in small planes. He began hunting pheasants at 14 weeks and over a 7-week period, went from staying at "heel" to flushing and retrieving.

Hoosier

Full Name: Raven’s Racing for Hoosier
Weight: 85 lbs.

Hoosier is the biggest puppy of them all! Ron’s oldest daughter, Simone is Hoosier's owner. Hoosier’s favorite toys include his trusted tennis ball, Tom Dokkens dead fowl retriever, and the tugg’n’rope. Hoosier LOVES to retrieve and loves the water. Simone says Hoosier has no problem running down the dock at full speed and flying into the water.

Some of Hoosier’s tricks include holding a cookie bone on his nose (just like his mother, Raven) and ‘throwing’ the ball back to Simone. “Hoosier is very spoiled,” said Simone. “He loves to visit his sister and Mom at Grandpa and Grandma’s house. And he loves to play tag with Raven II in the backyard.”

If you stop by Ron Schara’s production office on a Friday, you will probably be greeted at the door by Hoosier. He loves to come and “work” at the office on Fridays.

Hoosier has many of Raven’s habits, including cocking his head. He has large ears like his mother and “hops” through a field much like Raven does when a pheasant is around. Hoosier is an excellent retriever and has been through the training trials at Tom Dokken’s Kennel.

You may see Hoosier and Simone at some hunting trials. If you can’t catch them there, watch for them in the car heading up north - Hoosier loves to ride in the car!

Raven I

Full Name: Rum River's Black Raven
Weight: 68 lbs (one of the smaller females of her litter)
September 15, 1993 - October 26, 2005

Mother Raven enjoyed her retirement from show business, relaxing her days away at the Schara family home. Many of you saw her "retirement show" where her daughter Raven took over the busy schedule of a television star.

The original star of "Minnesota Bound", TV's Raven the Black Lab, starred in nearly 400 episodes of the 7-time Emmy winning program "Minnesota Bound" on KARE-11. She's also known for her roles on ESPN's "Backroads with Ron and Raven", and "Ron Schara's Call of the Wild". She is survived by her pups, including her replacement on the show, Raven II (Raven's Rum Rio).

In addition to her acting roles, Raven was a leading conservationist. She was instrumental in the Build-A-Wildlife Area project, which rehabilitated 700 acres of farmland into native prairie at Two Rivers Wildlife Area near Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.

She was honored by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who declared May 13, 2004, as "Ron Schara, Raven, and Minnesota Bound Day", in honor of her tenth anniversary on the air and her legacy of environmental stewardship. She has been a special friend to all who knew her, and she will be missed.
