Jackpine Bob Cary

Meet the legendary Jackpine Bob Cary.  Bob was a lifetime angler, hunter, canoe camper, cross-country skiir, story teller, and friend to many.  Originally from Illinois, Bob moved to Ely, Minnesota to spend the rest of his life.  Known for his writing, art, humor, insight and music, he quickly became a legend in his neck of the woods.  Bob has since passed away, but we will always remember him for his love of the outdoors.  Learn more...

Howard Sivertson

He's an artist who lives on Minnesota's North Shore.  He writes books and paints stories about folks who love the great outdoors in this part of the country.  His name is Howard Sivertson and you should get to know him.  Howard blends words and paintings to narrate local history in his four books: Once Upon an Isle, stories about the commercial fishing culture of Isle Royale, published in 1992; The Illustrated Voyageur, published in 1994 and reprinted in 2000; and Tales of the Old North Shore, published in 1996. Howard's latest book, Schooners, Skiffs & Steamships: Stories along Lake Superior Water Trails, was published in 2001.  Learn more about him now!
